Together they had travelled to exotic and remote parts of the world and were considered by all their friends as seasoned and sophisticated travellers. She leaves three sons: Cam (Doris Mae), Douglas, and Gordon (Wendy); ten grand-children: Trish Petrie (Dave) Sue, Lisa Koshinsky (Eric), Peter, Dana, Derek, Greg, Colin, Christopher and Craig; and four great- grandchildren: Jamie, April, Hannah and Darren. She was one of five children and her remaining sibling, Dr. Sandy Campbell, and his wife, Pat, were dear friends and supported her all her life. She was particularly fond of her nieces and nephews and their families. She was a reliable source of dress up parties and sleepovers. During her youth she had been a speed skater; however, her favourite story of youthful adventure was of when she drove ambulance during the war. She was a bowler and curler as long as her health allowed. A member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, she graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1932; she often recalled contributing to the university's musical productions. Joan was a very gregarious person and a wonderful bridge player who loved the excitement of the game. She was a long time member of the University Women's Club, where she had received an honorary lifetime membership, and it was for many years central to her social life and to her bridge game. She had been a member of St. Stephen's Broadway United Church. and was active in the Josephine Campbell Evening Auxiliary, named for her mother, and later in the United Church Women. She was for many years a director of the United Church Home for Girls and an original March of Dimes mother. She enjoyed cottage life having roots both in the Campbell family refuge at Fox Lake and Mackie's Meadow at Husavik. Her family remember great times with games and fish flies and treats. There will be a Memorial Service at the University Women's Club at 11:00 on July 20. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the University Women's Club, 54 West Gate, Winnipeg, in her name.
