Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILDRED WILSON August 21, 1917 - July 11, 2006 It is with great sadness that the family of Mildred Wilson announce her peaceful passing on July 11, 2006 at Grace Hospital following a brief illness. Mildred leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Willis Leonard (Len) Wilson; daughter Pat Kowlessar (Neal) of Winnipeg; son Brian of Ottawa; four granddaughters, Debra Kowlessar Inglis (Derek Inglis), Jennifer Kowlessar, Samantha Wilson-Clark (Jeremy Clark) Sandra Wilson; sister-in-law Hazel Hill (Len); and her daughter-in-law for many years, Ruth Wilson. Mildred was predeceased by her parents, Stan and Nettie Watson, younger sister Beryl, her mother and father in-law Edith and Arthur Wilson. Mildred was born and raised in Dauphin, MB. Upon completion of teacher training at Normal School, she taught at various postings in the Dauphin area. It was in Dauphin that Mildred met and married Len. Mildred and Len celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary on January 5, 2006. They weathered many good times and bad times together and were always a source of strength and support for each other. Their love for each other and their marriage was a wonderful example for their family. Mildred and Len moved to Winnipeg in 1942, and raised their family here. Faith was a very important part of Mildred's life. Both she and Len joined Harrow United Church in 1946 and brought up their family in the church. Mildred was very active at Harrow, a life member of the United Church Women, superintendent as well as a teacher of Sunday School, in charge of the nursery, and head of the visitation committee for many many years. Through the church they made many life long friends who have become family to them as well. Mildred loved children as is evident by her chosen career path, but children also had a special attachment to Mildred - she had a gift. Her four granddaughters remember her fondly for her unconditional love, patient gentle nature, her hugs, her many cozy hand knit sweaters and afghans, and her pantry filled with homemade cookies. Grandma will always be remembered as a true angel on earth. It was only in the last few years that Mildred's health started to decline, and she moved into West Park Manor Personal Care Home. The family would like to thank all the staff there for taking such wonderful care of Mildred, especially the staff of 1-South, who truly treated her with dignity, respect, care and compassion during her stay with them. Our family would also like to thank the members of the Emergency and ICU teams at Grace Hospital and special thanks to Major Faye Shail and Rev. Eleanor Geib for the care and compassion that they showed not only to Mildred but also to her whole family during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place, with a private inurnment at a later date. A memorial service celebrating Mildred's life will be held at Harrow United Church (955 Mulvey Ave.) on Monday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Eleanor Geib officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mildred's memory to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Harrow United Church Memorial Fund, or West Park Manor Personal Care Home.
