JESSIE JEAN MURPHY (nee STEPHEN) June 18, 1918 - July 16, 2006 Peacefully on July 16, 2006, Jessie Jean Murphy (nee Stephen) passed away at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 88. Jessie was predeceased by her beloved husband Stan, in 1996. Jessie and Stan were married in 1942 and began one of their many adventures in 1947, moving with Stan's career to Barbados and Jamaica where they spent 29 enjoyable years. Then it was on to Toronto for seven years. Jessie and Stan returned to their hometown of Winnipeg in 1983, retiring to spend summers with their extended family at their cottage in Gimli and to golf at the Breezy Bend Golf and Country Club. Throughout Jessie's life she brought joy and a smile to family and friends and loved to entertain, golf, play cribbage, travel and share stories about her many journeys and experiences. From 1989 to 1996, Jessie lovingly cared for her husband Stan, as together they met the challenges he faced with Alzheimer's. Jessie took great pride in continuing to coordinate fund raising craft sales on behalf Deer Lodge Centre Tower 3. Jessie resided in Lindenwood Manor since 2002 and frequently told everyone how happy she was there and how she loved her Manor friends, the caring staff and the many programs and events, including her evenings spent with her cribbage buddies. Jessie is survived by her sister Bette Donovan; and her brothers, Bill Stephen and Bruce Stephen. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Jean and John Stephen; and her brothers, George, Arthur, James and Wallace Stephen. Jessie maintained close contact with her 42 nieces and nephews and their families, being a friend, role model and a tower of strength to us all. The family would like to express our thanks to Dr. Prodan, Dr. Leslie, Dr. Butler and Dr. Kerr, as well as to CancerCare Manitoba and the excellent staff on 5A at Health Sciences Centre for the care and compassion they gave Jessie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deer Lodge Centre (Tower 3) or to CancerCare Manitoba. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Jessie Jean Murphy will be held on Wednesday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindenwood Manor, 475 Lindenwood Dr. Thomson Funeral Home 669 Broadway 783-7211 Live each day to the fullness thereof For yesterday is but an empty dream And tomorrow but a Vision for hope.
