WILLIAM (THE COACH) LOBB 1923 - 2006 The Coach has left the game. On Monday, July 17, 2006, William Garnett Lobb passed away surrounded by his loving family. Dearly beloved husband of Mary and much loved father of Garnett (Lori Ann), John (Barb), Kathleen (Gary) and Norma (Rick). Papa to 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two future draft picks. Predeceased by his parents, Garnett and Ella; his sisters, Patricia and Jocelyn, he is survived by his sisters, June and Rosemary. Papa's greatest joy in life was the time he spent with the grandchildren. He took a very active interest in all their lives and always found a new and creative nickname for each of them. In spite of having polio at a young age, Bill did participate in most sports right into adulthood. He took great pride as an employee of Richardson Securities in achieving his Canadian Securities certification. Later, Dad was instrumental in the formation of Unicity Taxi and was proud of the years spent as Chairman of the Board. He owned and operated Car 218 until his retirement. It was during this time that he acquired the nickname of Coach because of his years as a volunteer coach with youth lacrosse in St. James. Bill spent many hours holding court at the Sals , reliving past glory days, planning daily track bets and bragging about his family. The family wishes to thank Home Care Services, especially Dave and Jean for the special care that allowed Dad to continue to live at home in comfort. Additionally, thanks go to the Grace Hospital ER staff and Dr. Smith. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 21 at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Anglican Church, 195 Collegiate St., St. James. Reception in the parish hall immediately following. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the St. James Anglican Accessibility Fund, P.O. Box 42025, 1881 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 2X7 or to Rossbrook House, 658 Ross Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 0M1.
