PETER (PETE) JANSEN Pete will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Dorothy; daughter Lorna (Patrick) Martin of Sherwood Park; daughter-in-law Valerie of Kenora, ON; and four grandchildren, Russ (Beverly) Martin of Prince George, BC, Linda (Trevor) Matthews of St. Paul, Dana Jansen of Winnipeg and Tara (Neil) Trumble of Winnipeg; and four great-grandchildren, Zachery, Danika, Jesse, and Brady. Pete was predeceased by his son Bob in 2005. Pete was born February 27, 1919 in Russia. At the age of five, Pete immigrated to Canada with his family and settled in Manitoba. In 1940, Pete and Dorothy were married. They had two children when Peter joined the Air Force. He had a keen interest in becoming a pilot. He studied hard and graduated in 1944 with his pilot's wings. After the war, they moved to rural Manitoba where Pete started his own business collecting cream from the farmers and delivering to the dairy. He was well-liked for his friendly disposition and wonderful sense of humour. During his leisure time Pete played hockey and baseball. He then became actively involved in organizing teams and tournaments. Many years later Pete, Dorothy and family moved back to Winnipeg. He eventually began working for Banister Pipelines until his retirement, after which they moved to Edmonton, and later to Sherwood Park. Thanks to the staff at the Millwoods Shepherd's Care Centre in Edmonton, and special thanks to all at the Strathcona Care Centre in Sherwood Park for their continuing care. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Park Place Funeral Home, 51 Broadway Blvd., Sherwood Park, AB, with Pastor Thomas Peterson officiating.
