NICHOLAS JOSEPH JACKIMEC December 18, 1926 July 21, 2006 Peacefully in his home with his family at his side, he returned to the love of God having used every talent given to him in life. Predeceased by his father Dmytro, mother Polly and sisters Kate and Victoria. He will be missed by his wife Betty, sister Mary, daughter Carell (Hank), sons George (Marnie) and Nick; grandchildren David (Elizabeth), Jennifer (Garett), Lilian (Joseph), Meghan, Amelia, Nicholas and a great-grandson Eric, the Schellenberg family, numerous nieces and nephews. Nick was born and grew up in Elma, MB. As a young man he enjoyed the adventure of a variety of jobs; working on farms in the community of Elma, and in lumber camps along the shores of the Great Lakes. When he came to Winnipeg, he spent many years working for CNR starting as a tie inspector, working in the railcar shops and finally retiring from the print shop. He also enjoyed entrepreneurial pursuits with The Sunset Inn restaurant, Nick's Dry Goods, building maintenance and property management. Nick found pleasure in several pursuits throughout retirement. A recognized wood carver, he welcomed challenges carving with his friend Nap. With Betty they had fun being Canadian Snowbirds in Texas for many years. He loved being in the company of friends and family and was known for his quick wit and sense of humour. A service celebrating his life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on July 25 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at a later date at the Catholic Parish in Elma.
