EDWARD JOHN GOLIN September 7 1928 July 22 2006 After a lengthy battle with cancer, with his eldest son Barry (Donna) by his side along with Ed's sister Isabel and his companion of 7 years, Resi Dux, Edward passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre. Ed was predeceased by his wife Helen and sister Bernice. He is survived by his common law spouse Resi Dux, sister Isabel, sons Barry (Donna) their children Haley, Erin, Marla, and Devin, son Glenn (Sharon) and their children, Stephanie, Conrad and Warren, nephew Grant (Catherine) Mountain. Ed's life was driven by his saying, just do it . Ed grew up in Fort Rouge and left to Toronto to complete his High School. He paid his way working as a Brick Layers Assistant and taught the Trumpet in the evening. When he graduated he came back to Winnipeg to complete his Bachelor of Education, started his teaching career in English. He taught at Sisler High, Churchill High and Luxton While he was teaching he started a manufacturing company Golin Matts and covers as his operation expanded he left the teaching career of 13 years to focus full time on his company. As it grew he expanded to retail, opening Goline Sports. In the mornings he delivered flyers for his store and in his evening after work he printed the flyers, and even found time to crank out a couple of notes on his trumpet. Around this time he decided that it was time to get his private pilots license and a floatplane. When he was diagnosed with cancer he retired from retail and spent his time buying and selling surplus and freight damaged goods. When his wife Helen passed away he took some time for himself. When he was 71 years old he met Resi and started playing his trumpet at the Belgium Club and the German Club. In spite of all Ed's accomplishments his greatest moment was the opportunity to play first Trumpet. He took a vacation finally and went to Mexico and Florida. He had many hobbies, hunting, fishing, manufacturing, gardening, construction, and carving. His creativity kept him in constant motion. The only time you could ever catch Ed sitting was when he was in front of his sewing machine. Ed cherished the company of his loyal and wise friend Charlie Lohr (Sr.) and his visits with the Lohr family. Ed's family would like to extend grateful thanks for the unsurpassed; dedication, kindness and care for our father to the entire staff on the third floor east wing, Riverview Health Centre. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Thursday July 27, at 1:00p.m. at St. Vital Cemetery, 236 River Road, Winnipeg. Flowers are gratefully declined; a donation to a charity of ones choice in Ed's memory may be made. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
