Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERNEST WILLIAM CHELLY July 23, 1923 - July 23, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, papa and great-papa, Ernie Chelly on his 83rd birthday, July 23, 2006 at Concordia Hospital. Left to mourn Ernie's passing are his daughter Carolyn (Elmer); son Ron (Nancy) of Maple Ridge, BC; grandchildren, Sean and Tracey of British Columbia, Rhonda (Kevin), Brenda (Chris); great-granddaughters, Kayla and Jasmine. Also considered grandchildren, Darryl, Sheryl, Dalton and Julia; daughter-in-law Dolores; Wayne Yachison whom he thought of as a son; sisters-in-law, Phylis and May; and his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Kay; son Darrell; sisters, Mina, Olive, Jean; and brothers, Vincent, John, Joe and Mike. Ernie was born and raised in Transcona. He served in the Canadian Navy from 1942 - 1945 as a telegrapher transmitting morse code. After returning from the navy in 1945 he started working for the C.N.R. in the blacksmith shops, retiring in 1984. Ernie was also employed at the Cavalier hotel as a bartender. In his latter years he enjoyed spending more time with his family and his pride and joy, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Always willing to help others, Ernie was always on the go. He enjoyed bowling, yard work, numerous phone calls and cooking spaghetti dinners at his family home. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and health care aids for their kindness and support. Dad / papa will be greatly missed by his family and friends for all his help and thoughtfulness. Forever in our hearts. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
