SCHROEDER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather, George on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at St. Boniface Hospital. George was predeceased by his brothers and one sister. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 54 years Eva; daughters, Dorothy Fingland (Bryan) of Winnipeg, Elizabeth (Betty) Duncan (David) of Edmonton; grandchildren, Shaun, Andrew and Megan; sisters-in-law, Marian, Alma, Terry; brother-in-law Ernie (Carol) Dauphinais of Vancouver; as well as, numerous relatives and friends. George Schroeder was born in Tiege, Ukraine on February 18, 1914 to Henry and Katrina Schroeder (nee Braun). Through many hardships due to the Communist Revolution of 1917, George managed to graduate from the Pedagogical Faculty of Foreign Languages at the Kharkov University in 1938, with the hope of immigrating to North America in the future. His hopes were realized in 1949 when he came to Canada. To resume his teaching career in Canada, George furthered his education at a Mennonite College in British Columbia for two years. He then accepted a teaching position in a one-room school in St. Martin, MB. There he met his future wife Eva Dauphinais, who was teaching in Gypsumville, MB. They were married in August, 1952 and moved to Lundar, MB, were they raised their two daughters. George was very dedicated to his career as a teacher and principal for 24 years until his retirement in 1978. George and Eva then moved to Winnipeg and for an additional 28 years enjoyed their lives together before his passing. Special thanks from the family to the nurses and staff of 5E at the St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion and caring. Prayers will be said on Friday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 29 at 10:00 a.m., also at Holy Rosary.
