Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM GARFIELD (GAR) HINDLE February 9, 1917 - July 26, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gar Hindle, peacefully, with his family by his side, at the St. Boniface Hospital, on July 26, 2006. Gar is survived by his loving wife Doris (nee Saunders) of 66 years; four children, Garry (Donna), Dianne (Ken), John (Bev) and Valerie (Gary); 14 grandchildren, Laird, Brock, Regan, Kirk, Chris, Leah, Gerrit, David, Sarah, Michelle, Allyson, D'Alton, Robert and Daniel; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kayla. Gar was raised in Collingwood, ON where he met and married the love of his life, Doris Saunders. They were happy and devoted to each other as they travelled through life together. Gar was fun loving, he adored life, loved his family and enjoyed his friends. He appreciated the little things and he could make every day a glorious adventure. Gar worked for 43 years with the Canadian National Railways Signals Department, retiring in 1981. Gar enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army 8th Signal Corps attached to the Fort Garry Horse during the Second World War. He was in the first wave on the D-Day invasion. He was wounded in the battle for Caen, hospitalized in England, returned to his regiment and finished the war in Holland. Gar did not talk much about the war, but he was a true war hero saving the lives of men with him while risking his own life. Gar was a kind and gentle person, loved by all who knew him. He was an avid golfer and had a hole-in-one. He was a provincial Master Angler, square dancer, gardener, wood carver, Goldeyes fan, world traveler, a great story teller and most of all, a friend to everyone. He was always there when you needed him. He made everyone feel special. You will always be in our hearts. We love you. You will be greatly missed The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital - Ward 5B for the manner in which they provided care. The quality of the care and the people who touched our lives was very special. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 31 at United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota St. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make a donation in Gar's memory to the Salvation Army, 100-55 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1L8.
