ANNE STEEN Anne Steen passed away Friday, July 21, 2006 at her home in Vancouver. Anne was predeceased by her husband Irv (Doc) Steen, who passed away in September of 2004. Anne was born in Winnipeg in 1929, raised a family there before moving to Saskatoon to pursue a career with the federal government. In 1992, Anne and Irv moved to Vancouver to enjoy retirement. Over the course of her life, the one thing Anne did was keep very busy. She worked throughout her life even while raising three children. Early in life, she developed a passion for public service and politics. While in Winnipeg she ran for public office and although she was never elected, she enjoyed her political life immensely. It was during this period that she met and made many friends of both political allies and adversaries alike. She was always dedicated, focused, tireless and extremely passionate about everything she undertook. She brought the same work ethic and passion to her career as a member of the National Parole Board. She had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest, always with a project or assignment to fulfill. Above all, Anne had a big heart and will be remembered by the many whose lives she touched. She will be missed by her children, Rob of Vancouver, Susan (John) of Parksville and Jerry (Veronica) of Calgary. She also leaves brothers, Nate (Linda) Nurgitz of Winnipeg, Barney (Sally) Nurgitz of Toronto and brother-in-law Harvey (Peg) Stein of Winnipeg. She also leaves a grandson Neil Steen of Winnipeg.
