Date of Passing: Jul 17, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL GUSHULIAK November 14, 1917 - July 17, 2006 Sadly, we announce that Mike, aged 88 years, passed away peacefully at home with his wife Lena of 67 years close by his side. His short battle with cancer was courageously fought. Besides his loving wife Lena, he is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by son Gene (Virginia) of Winnipeg and daughter Gladys Tough (Rick) of Surrey; his grandchildren, Marisa, Christie, Paula, Michael, David and Tracy; and great-grandchildren, Megan and Harley. Mike also leaves behind siblings, Della, Bill, John and Lorraine; and was predeceased by siblings Nick, Anne and Mary. Mike was born in Arbakka, MB and was a Second World War veteran. Before retiring to Surrey, BC, in 1978, he lived in Middlebro, MB for 12 years before moving to Winnipeg in 1952 where he and his wife were self-employed in the grocery business for 26 years. Mike had many wonderful attributes. He was a hardworking and energetic individual all his life, which was demonstrated in so many ways. During his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening, walking, travelling, and spending time with his family. He and Lena shared a really keen interest in watching baseball and enjoyed this activity together very much. He will be remembered for his zest for life, his kindness and his wonderful sense of humour that endeared him to all that met him. Our world was definitely a better place because of him and he will always be in our hearts and thoughts. He will remain an inspiration to his family. Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the home care nurses and Dr. Alexiadis of the Cedar Hills Palliative Unit who showed endless kindness in Mike's final days. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. No formal service by request.
