Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR L. HOCK In Kelowna, BC, on Friday, July 28, 2006 with his loving wife by his side. From a Prairie boy to a City Slicker, Arthur Lyon Hock (Art to his friends and family), son of Maurice and Nora Hock, was born at home in Carlton, SK on July 23, l927. A few years later the family moved to Battleford, SK where Maurice had a flour mill. From there they moved across the river to North Battleford. Art graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. When his father went into the hotel business, Arthur stayed to help for a few years before following the old saying, Go west young man, go west! He answered an ad for a BC distillery in Marpole and spent some time in both Montreal and Jamaica where he worked in research. He then returned to New Westminster, BC as a distiller for Seagram's. A promotion to plant manager landed Art and his family in Gimli, MB where they lived from l974 to l978. He was then promoted to manage the Waterloo, ON plant, where Seagram's began, and stayed until the plant was shut down. He stayed on for another two years to oversee the shut down and tear down of buildings and equipment. Along with his professional and family obligations he also found time to become involved with the Waterloo Rotary Club and the Kitchener-Conestoga Probus Club. He was a member of the Westmount Golf and Country Club, enjoying golf in the summer and curling in the winter. After a couple of years in retirement, a trip out west soon found Art and his wife Gail building a lovely home in Westbank, BC, just across the lake from Kelowna. With light, snow-free winters, and deer wandering through a facing canyon early in the mornings, this is where they spent the winter months. A four hour drive to Vancouver kept them in touch with their western friends and relatives. They spent the warmer months at their home in Waterloo where a one hour drive to Toronto and a six hour drive to Montreal kept them in touch with their eastern friends and relatives. Arthur leaves to mourn his wife Gail. Father to Randy of Vancouver, Sherrie and her husband Steve Ackles of Parksville, BC, and Colin and his wife Tina Patterson-Hock of Kitchener. Brother to Dr. Lorne Hock of Vancouver. Loving zeda to Robert, Kyle, and Ashley Ackles and Logan Hock. Many relatives, and many, many friends. Funeral service will be held from Beth Jacob Synagogue on Monday, July 31, at 2:00 p.m.with Rabbi Yosil Rosenzweig officiating. Interment will be in Beth Jacob Cemetery.
