Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMURRAY BERENS (SAM) October 21, 1934 - July 28, 2006 Peacefully with his family at his side, at his home in Berens River, Murray Berens (Sam) passed away on July 28, 2006 at the age of 71 years. Murray leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 43 years, Dolores; his children, Nancy (Morden), Steve (Kim), Dale (Glen), Shane (Wendy) and Greg (Angie); seven grandchildren whom he adored, Dion, Lyndon, Anton, Naomi, Demi, Dyamon my baby girl and Darnell my baby; one surviving brother Victor (Irene); as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Murray was predeceased by his parents; two sisters and five brothers. Murray was a fisherman, mechanic, trapper and carpenter. Also, he was a councillor for six years. He was a self-educated entrepreneur, starting his own business in 1974. He was a very wise and understanding person. Murray's favorite singer was Hank Williams and his favorite song was I saw her footprints in the snow. Murray was avid in his hobbies in his garage, repairing motors, vehicles and he especially took pride in maintaining a beautiful lawn on his huge property. He kept his business and home well maintained. He was very generous, straight forward and kind. To Murray, his grandchildren came first. He made sure they were always provided for and well looked after, and they loved him dearly. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the Berens River Chief and Council, the nurses at the Nursing Station and the community members. A wake service be held on Saturday, July 29, from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. at the Deliverence Center, 1831 Selkirk Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Wake services will also take place on Sunday, July 30, and Monday, July 31, at the family residence at Berens River First Nation. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Church in Berens River with Rev. Roy Bouchie officiating. Interment will follow at the Berens River Cemetery. The Pallbearers will be: Dion Berens, Lyndon Berens, Howard Berens, Moses McKay, Morden Everett, Lloyd Sinclair, George Boucher, and Allan Atlooken.
