THELMA GUDBJORG BIRD (nee WILD) It is with profound sorrow that the family announces the passing of our beloved mother, Thelma Bird, at the Victoria General Hospital on July 28, 2006 after a courageous and valiant struggle with cancer. Predeceased by parents Malcolm and Gudrun, brothers Douglas and Donald, husband Cameron and daughter Barbara; Mom will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her three sons, Brian (Judy) of Saskatoon, Randy (Marilyn), Doug (Marlene Jorgenson); daughter Kimberly (Michel) of Ottawa; seven cherished grandchildren, Allison Rawlings and Michael Bird, Allison and Donnie MacLean, Jennifer Bird, Samantha and Alex Perron; three dear great-grandchildren, Ethan, ChloƩ and Bronte; sister-in-law Viola Wild of Langruth, MB along with many nieces and nephews. Thelma was born on June 8, 1921 in Lakeland, MB and came to Winnipeg to attend Finishing School. Thelma met and wed Cam, her loving husband of 44 years on October 16, 1948. Thelma worked at Canada Packers, Eaton's and the Winnipeg Gas Company retiring in 1986. As Thelma's family grew, she and Cam created a family treasure in building a cottage at Red Rock Lake in the Whiteshell. Thelma loved the lake and enjoyed its peacefulness almost as much as the bustle when everyone was down for a holiday. She especially took pleasure in her evening boat tour around the lake and was proud when her grandchildren carried on for Cam and took the wheel for her. Thelma was very active in her community, volunteered at many church events and enthusiastically participated in Jubilee Chapter No. 27 O.E.S. The absence of her tireless and generous giving of time and energy will be felt by many. She also enjoyed keeping up with the Hydro retirees, the Police Wives circle and dinners and birthday celebrations with close friends. Thelma loved to travel and often visited her family in Saskatchewan and Ontario. She also travelled with her children and grandchildren to Disney World, the Maritimes and other parts of Canada and the United States and always provided a special meaning to the trip. In accordance with her wishes, cremation and private interment alongside her life partner Cam, will take place. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary's Road United Church on August 1, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Susan Tough officiating. The service will be followed by a light lunch. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation. The family wishes to express grateful thanks to Dr. Latosinsky and the doctors and staff at the Victoria General Hospital. THOMSON Funeral Chapels - 669 Broadway - 783-7211 Do not mourn my children, Life is for living Be good to each other And carry on with dignity and pride, As your father and I have raised you.
