MARIE SOLVASON Peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2006 with her family at her side, at the Health Sciences Hospital, Marie Solvason, passed away at age 81. Predeceased by parents Alfred and Gladys Schweitzer, son Donald, her sister Ruth Rockley and her brother Russell Schweitzer. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Armann, son Doug (Arlene) and family (Mathew, Byron (Shannon), Dayna (Tim) and great-granddaughters, Keianna and Eden) son Arthur and family (Anders, Kelsey); sisters Marg (Ray) Gregory, Shirley Doug) Heise, Audrey (Gus) Angus and sister-in-law Fay Schweitzer. Marie was born on October 13, 1924 in Hamiota, MB. She came to Winnipeg to attend Normal School. After graduation, she taught school at Woodlands, Boonie Doone and Lake Francis. At Woodlands, she met and wed Armann and began raising a family while continuing her teaching plus helping out with the family farm. Her life was devoted to raising her three sons which meant travelling with husband Armann and taking other kids as well, to hockey games in the winter and baseball in the summer. Marie was especially proud of her son Don, who while born a parapallegic, maintained a very positive outlook on life. She was always grateful for the assistance provided by Dr. Don Plummer, in getting approval for Don to attend regular school classes at Woodlands. In 1969, the family moved to Winnipeg where Marie restarted her teaching as a substitute teacher and then worked at the Free Press for a short time. Mostly, she maintained the family home and yard (including gardening) and attending to her family's needs. The family would like to express their grateful thanks to relatives and friends who have provided comfort and assistance to Marie during her last few years. In accordance with her wishes, cremation and private interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donations may be made to the Children's Hospital.
