Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRED (FREDDIE) KRAWETZ August 10, 1924 - August 1, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and friend, Fredrick Krawetz. Fred passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Portage General Hospital. He is survived by daughter Tannis Corfield (Jim); stepson Lindsay Johnson (Dianne); grandchildren, Lee and Stacey. He is also survived by his sister Kay Thompson and brother Steve Krawetz. He was predeceased by his wife Dona in 2001; his mother and dad John and Eva; two brothers and a sister. Fred was born in Melonville, MB on August 10, 1924. He went to Iris School when he was about six years old. After completing a grade eight education, he decided to join the work force. Freddie did many jobs throughout his lifetime. He helped the McKinnon family herd sheep and was part of many threshing crews. Fred was with the army for a short period of time. He worked for Dominion Poultry and building houses at the McDonald Air Force Base. He was very proud that he worked with Begdolt Construction on the Pipeline and was known for his work on the paper latcher machine. He would tell stories of his working in Cornwall, ON and in Quebec. Fred worked at the mine in Amaranth (where he met Dona), they married in 1958 and moved to Alonsa where he took up farming on the home place. He worked for the Department of Highways for several years and finished his working years as a school bus driver with Turtle River School Division and retired in 1988. After Dona passed away, he remained on the farm till 2004. He sold the farm and moved to Portage, where he remained until his death. Freddie and His Country Cousins were well known in many of the small communities of Western Manitoba. Fred was a natural fiddle player who couldn't read a bit of music but knew all the tunes by heart. He was an excellent musician. Fred took pride in his family and, in particular, his grandchildren. He was a happy go lucky, friendly man who knew someone in just about every community he would visit. Fred was very generous and would help anyone out no matter what the situation. He will be missed by many. We as a family extends our sincere appreciation to the Doctors and Staff at Portage General Hospital for their patience and care of Fred over the past few months. Prayers will be held on Friday, August 4 at 7:00 p.m. in McCreary at Dobchuk-Anderson Funeral Chapel and the funeral service will be held Saturday, August 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alonsa Community Centre.
