GERTRUDE ALEXANDRIA BRICKELL Gertrude passed away Monday, July 31, 2006 at the Charleswood Care Centre. Gertrude was born on July 14, 1910 in Winnipeg, and lived here all of her life. She was a long-term member of Sparling United Church, and an active member of the U.C.W. while she lived in Weston. Gertrude was predeceased by her mother and father (Elizabeth and Frederick Stone); her husband Eric in 1994; her sister Jean MacKay in 1997, and her step-granddaughter Laurel Phillips in 1991. She will be lovingly remembered by her step-daughter Joan (Gordon) Charles of Winnipeg and their son Brian and his three boys in Whitehorse, and son Michael of Winnipeg; step-daughter Elaine (Al) McLeod of Sioux Lookout, their daughter Sharon (Adrian) Skirzyk, and Laurel's sons, Courtney and Clayton; also her niece Lexie (John) Gregorchuk and their children, Michael (Becky) and Julie; and her nephew Jim (Margaret) MacKay and their children Andrew, Elizabeth and Maureen (Luciano) Dibernardo. Gertrude was employed as a secretary for many years in the Manitoba Department of Health, and later as a volunteer at Sparling United Church. She and Eric enjoyed many happy summers at their cottage at Laclu, ON. In accordance with Gertrude's wishes, following cremation, a family graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Scott MacAuley, Pastor of Sparling United Church, at Brookside Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. J. Bergen and doctors, nurses and staff of Concordia Hospital and the Charleswood Care Centre for their kindness and consideration. Flowers gratefully declined.
