Date of Passing: Aug 03, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDNA ERNA DOWNS On August 3, 2006, Edna Downs passed away in Victoria General Hospital at the age of 91 years. Born in Drake, SK, Mom was predeceased by husband Bert; son Arnold; daughter-in-law Audrey; sister Helen and brothers, Eldon and Orlin. She will be remembered with love by daughter-in-law Norma in Strathmore, AB, grandchildren, Kim, Brenda and Robert; son Gary in Manotick, ON, grandchildren, Tammy, Greg and Darcy; son Bob and daughter-in-law Linda in Winnipeg and grandchildren, Donna, Terry, Ryan and Chris; ten great-grandchildren and her siblings and numerous relatives. Moving her family more than thirty times across the prairies including many training bases during the war, Mom also had her own career first in the hotel industry and then in convenience store management. Everywhere she went Mom left her mark and made friends. A staunch supporter of her family's activities, she kept everyone informed. She was particularly proud of her great-grandchildren and enjoyed visits with them all. She made many trips across the country to visit her family, including the past two summers to Saskatchewan to visit all of her siblings. Mom lived in her own condo until the end thanks to the great friends she had in her building and the group of wonderful home care workers. In spite of failing eyesight, severe arthritis and heart problems, she wanted to stay in her home close to her friends. The family are most appreciative of the care given Mom by the medical staff of Victoria General Hospital and their support and compassion. A celebration of Mom's life will be held Tuesday, August 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, R3T 2E8 would be appreciated.
