MARIE KUPCHIK Peacefully on August 2, 2006 Mom went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at the age of 87. Mom will be sadly missed by her daughter Joyce Chymyshyn (Bert); son Larry Kupchik (Patty); grandchildren, Brenda (Gerry), Kevin (Donna), David (Crystal), Donna (Wayne), Jason (Pam), Dianna; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Ann Novinko of Simcoe, ON and Alice Freneb of Edmonton and special niece Pat Pruden of Selkirk. Mom was predeceased by her lifelong husband Frank, mother Kate Popowich and father John Popowich, dear sister Stella Hayday and brother Mike Popowich. Mom was born in Yorkton, SK. On March 23, 1919. She met Frank in 1938 and moved to Lockport, MB where she spent her entire life farming with Frank and raising her two children along the Red River on Henderson Highway. Mom was a very devoted mother and hard working wife. Being on the farm one had to endure good years and bad ones and Mom would always be there to make it happen. Be it her cooking, knitting, working the fields, she was always the best one could wish for. She always had special remedies when we would come down with the usual flus, colds and other ailments. She was always quick to appreciate and show how proud she was in our achievements in school and Sunday school. Mom also enjoyed the family gatherings at Baba Lazaruks such as Ukrainian Christmas and Easter. When Mom and Dad retired they spent many winters in Hawaii. She was especially thrilled on one winter holiday coming home, telling us that she had the pleasure of meeting Don Ho. They also spent many years in Phoenix, AZ where they enjoyed the company of many friends. A special thanks to Doctor Lindenschmidt and Dr. Demsas for their devoted care. Our family also wishes to express our most sincere thanks to all of the staff at Red River Place for their sincere care and compassion. A special thanks to the staff who went out of their way in the final days to make Mom comfortable and making family members feel more at ease in Mom's final hours. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. We love you Mom and Nanny, we will dearly miss you. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
