GARY PETER GOBEIL May 24, 1940 August 2, 2006 Sadly and suddenly on August 2, 2006, at 2:45 p.m. at the Health Sciences Centre, the rock of our family, husband, father, uncle, brother-in-law and friend passed away too soon at the age of 66. He left us to be in a better place and join his father, mother and younger brother, leaving a huge void in our lives. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Bernie; son Gary; along with his sisters-in-law, Tonie (Norm) and Darlene (Duane); brother-in-law Bud (Dianna); nieces and nephews, Tracy (Pete), Carrie (Martin), Danielle, Bud (Jackie), Dan (Nadine), Rob and Michael; uncle and aunt Laurie and Audrie; and cousins, Ken, Bonnie, Don (Deb), Shelly (Mark) and countless other relatives (children of his cousins) and friends. He was predeceased by his father Peter; mother Margaret and younger brother Dave. Gary was born in Winnipeg, on May 24, 1940. He started his career working in the printing trade, but left to follow his father's career with CN Rail. However, he returned to the printing trade and worked the rest of his career in this trade for the next 34 years, continuing to work with Naylor after his official retirement at 65. He took pride in never missing a day of work until his last days when his failing health forced him to stay at home. His joys and happiest moments were spent renovating and camping. Most of all he loved Wildwood Trailer Park and before that Birds Hill Park. Gary was at peace there trying to spend his last days there, as he loved all the friendly people he met. He was always a strong, active man who was always available to anyone who needed him. He had a strong work ethic and valued his commitment to his family. However, that strength slipped away very suddenly, rapidly deteriorating him and taking him from us far too soon and without warning. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Cheryl Creelman and Dr. K. Lamba for all their help and the rest of the staff on D4 at the Health Sciences Centre. A memorial service to celebrate Gary's life will be held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street on Tuesday, August 8 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gary to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 (phone 787-4143). In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away. You suffered in silence, You were our rock. You fought so hard to stay Weary and afraid you made no fuss But tried so hard to stay with us. So when we saw you sleeping So peacefully free of fear and pain We could not wish you home again. You are now with the ones you loved before And await the ones you left to mourn. Someday we will all be together again. We love you and miss you until then. The Desjardins Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 233-4949 or toll free 1-888-233-4949.
