NORBERT A. FORTIER Norbert, husband of Alice, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at the Riverview Health Center, at the age of 78 years. He was born at Dunrea, MB on February 2, 1928, the son of Wilfrid and Clara (Boulet) Fortier. He spent his youth on the family farm in his home town, married Rita Bisson in 1951 and farmed in Dunrea until he moved to a farm west of Portage in 1960. There he worked for Charlie Oliver until 1972 when he moved to Portage and began to work for Connery Riverdale Farms until he retired in 1994. Norbert enjoyed life to the fullest taking every opportunity to enjoy family time by playing cards, Belgium bowling, dance, making music, and was a Canadian champ throwing horseshoes. Norbert leaves to mourn his passing, Alice (nee Bouchard), his beloved wife of seven years; seven children, Ron (Mona), René (Margorie), Roger (Peggy), Claude (Helen), John (Roberta), Cecile (Shawn), and Yvette. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Amber, Kyle, David, Cameron, Candice, Chris, Jeff, Danielle, Chantal, Jennifer, Devin (Melissa) Brentt, Brandon, Brendan, and Karlyn; and four great-grandchildren, Savanna, Cyndel, Sebastian, and Owen. He also leaves to mourn brothers and sisters, Hélène (Tony Hayek), Armand (Rose), Gilles (Marie-Paul), Clément (Yvonne), Cécile m.o., Roseline (Bill O'Brien), Maurice (Michelle); and also numerous nieces and nephews. Norbert was predeceased by his first wife Rita; both his parents; sisters, Alice (Léon Boulet), Anna (Richard Turczak); and brothers, Hank (Adithe), and Maurice Sr. Special thanks to Dr. Johnston and Nurse Erin at Cancer Care at the Health Sciences Center. Prayers will be held on Monday, August 7 at 8:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons St. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 8 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette's Parish, 820 Cottonwood Rd. Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care MB, ON 109 675 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
