DERICK GILBERT (DICK) CALSBECK Dick died peacefully with his family and dear friend Jack Dick at his side at Concordia Hospital on August 5, 2006. Dick is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Isabel; his daughter Wenda Carter (Larry Bender); his sons Barry and Randy (Lisa); and his grandchildren, Derek, Brett and Zoe. He also leaves to mourn his brother Bill Ebbers (Marie), many nieces and nephews and their families and many cherished friends. Dick was predeceased by his parents, his brother Henry Calsbeck and his beloved son-in-law Murray Carter. Dick was born in Winnipeg on August 31, 1926 and spent his childhood in Ashern. He returned to Winnipeg for his education and then began his 30 year career in sales and management with Community Chev Olds and Ed Vickar Chevrolet. Dick was a people person and his gift of the gab and outgoing personality were well suited in his chosen career. He was a salesman extraordonaire and was a General Motors Master Sales Leader for many years. He also enjoyed his work at Grainmaster, General Truck and Arne's Welding until his retirement. He made many life-long friends throughout his career. Dick belonged to many organizations and clubs, including the Beaver Ionic Lodge #25, Scottish Rite, Khartum Temple and the Buffalo Recreation Club. He was proud to be a Shriner and member of the Vintage Car Club. Dick spent many years as a volunteer driver with Cancer Care Manitoba where he was able to continue his love of meeting and helping people. Some of Dick's most memorable times were spent at the family's Falcon Lake cottage where he enjoyed the quiet life, fishing and watching the wildlife. He treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and the companionship of great neighbours and friends. Dick had an amazing attitude towards life in spite of suffering poor health for many years. He remained positive, busy and happy and always had a smile and a story to tell. We were very fortunate to have had him in our lives and will miss him deeply. The family would like to thank Dr. K. Jolly for the many years of excellent care and acknowledge the compassionate support of the staff in ICU at Concordia Hospital. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, August 10 at 11:00 a.m. in John Black Memorial United Church, 898 Henderson Hwy. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Dick's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Cancer Care Manitoba or a charity of their choice. To a good life came a peaceful end, He died as he lived, everyone's friend, Upright and just in all his ways, Loving and kind to the end of his days, We saw him suffer, heard him sigh, We could do nothing but sit close by. We have lost, but heaven has gained, One of the best the world contained. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM 220 Hespeler Ave. @ Henderson Hwy. 668-3151
