MICHEAL MAURICE BALCAEN With deep sadness we announce the passing of Maurice Balcaen - age 71 years. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Maurice passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2006 at the Riverview Health Center. He is survived by his beloved wife Joan of 50 years of marriage, daughter Cathy Reese and son Michael Balcaen and wife Kim. Also missing him greatly are his two special grandchildren, Cameron Reese and Amber Balcaen. He will be missed by his brother Harvey (Fern), and sisters, Louise (Howie), Gail and sister-in-law Lorraine Balcaen. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Katherine Balcaen and his brother Gerald Balcaen. Maurice's working years were spent in the family business, Balcaen Sons. After retirement he and Joan spent many happy winters in Mesa, Arizona where they had many friends, old and new. Maurice made friends wherever he went and will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his helping hand and his infectious laugh. He was a great man, and will be missed by the many people he has touched in his lifetime. Maurice's first concern was always his family. His love and support will be with us always. He loved and was loved. The family would like to thank all healthcare professionals who have cared for Maurice during the last difficult years of his life, with special thanks to the entire staff of 3 East Riverview Health Center. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 10 at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. Burial will be held at St. Vital Roman Catholic Cemetery, 826 Crescent Dr. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donations to the Riverview Health Centre or CancerCare Foundation Manitoba, 109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, would be greatly appreciated.
