HENRY THOMAS (HARRY) SMITH On August 8, 2006, Harry Smith, with quiet courage and dignity, passed away at Grace General Hospital, Winnipeg, at the age of 85 years. A Second World War veteran, Harry served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1944 as an Air Gunner, Dispatcher and Parachutist in England, North Africa and Italy. Re-enlisting in 1946, he worked as a metals technician and welder. Achieving the rank of Warrant Officer, Harry retired in 1971, after serving with NATO in Canada, France and Germany. He kept active during retirement, working at the Red River College in Winnipeg. Lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Lorraine Walz (Jim), Joan Mannall (Chris); grandchildren Warren and April, Stephen and Catherine, and great-grandchild Alessia; his sister Grace Smith (Calvin); nieces Michelle (Larry), Catherine (Kirk), nephews Roy (Louise), Bruce (Evelyn) and great-nieces Stacey, Sage, Shennen, Stephanie and Shawn-Kelly. Predeceasing Harry are his sister Anne Smirnos (Michael Smitty ), brother-in-law Calvin Smith ( Kelly ), nephew Calvin Smith Jr. (Betty), and great-nephew Lorne Smirnos. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 11, at 2:00 p.m., at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, Aubrey Street entrance. The family wish to express their heart-felt appreciation to the many people who made Harry's stays at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre and Grace General Hospital comfortable.
