GERTA FUNK Gerta Funk passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 as a result of an automobile accident. Gerta Funk, aged 78 of Altona, MB and formerly of Rosenfeld, MB is lovingly remembered by son Raymond and wife Colleen of Winnipeg; son Charles and wife Wendy of Lethbridge, AB; daughter Angela and husband Armin of Winkler; son Darrell and wife Donna of Edmonton, AB; brother Gerhard and wife Ferne of Calgary, AB; brother Ernie and friend Marge of Winnipeg; sister Johanna and friend Guy of Winnipeg; sister Ruth and husband John of Orleans, ON; brother Ron of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Selma of Winnipeg; also by nine grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews and of course her many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, her parents, Wilhelm and Sarah Loewen; sister Elfrieda and brother William. Gerta Funk was born to her parents, Wilhelm and Sarah Loewen on September 4, 1927 near Myrtle, AB. Gerta was raised in Springstein. After graduating from the MCI, Gerta returned to the farm in Springstein to help her parents with the twins. During her four years at home she attended the Canadian Mennonite Bible College in Winnipeg, MB for two years. After attaining her teacher's certificate, Gerta commenced her first teaching job at a Hutterite Colony, eventually moving on to McGregor, MB and in 1956 starting teaching at Rosenfeld School. On April 27, 1957, she married her beloved husband Peter Funk and settled in Rosenfeld. They raised a family of four children, Raymond, Charles, Angela and Darrell. In 1987, Gerta and Peter moved from Rosenfeld to Altona. Gerta retired from the teaching profession in 1989 and spent many happy, busy years keeping in touch with her family and numerous friends. Viewing will be held at Wiebe Funeral Home in Altona on Sunday, August 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. The funeral service will be held Monday, August 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Altona Mennonite Church in Altona, MB with interment to follow at the Altona Municipal Cemetery.
