ILONA MARGARETE KROHN (nee SMOLINSKI) 1948 - 2006 At the age of 57 Ilona passed away peacefully, on August 12, 2006 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB after a 15-year battle with breast cancer. Ilona will be lovingly remembered by her husband Lutz, son Reimund (Lynn), daughter Connie and her loving grandchildren Devon, Isabella, Aedan, and Anastasia. She is also survived by her parents, Erwin and Emma Smolinski; her two sisters, Anita (Tom), Nancy (Craig) and brother Harry (Maureen); Lutz's brother Rolf (Connie) and many nephews, and nieces from the USA including their families. Ilona was born in December of 1948; met her husband Lutz in the summer of 1965 and got married in November of 1968. With her husband, Ilona traveled to and re-visited many of their favorite islands in the Caribbean. Ilona loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Her family wishes to thank the Oncology staff at CancerCare Manitoba (St. Boniface), the staff of Patient and Family Support Services and the St. Boniface Palliative Care staff for their help with Ilona's illness. As per Ilona's wishes, cremation has taken place and NO formal Memorial Service will be held, with a private family interment to take place at a later date. A drop-in, open house tea will be held on August 18 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at 23 Whiteshell Avenue in Transcona, and if you wish to remember me, plant a flower or a tree.
