MARGARET FRIESEN Oh blessed is the house where you are welcomed; Lord Jesus Christ, true friend of the soul Margaret Friesen (nee Froese) passed away peacefully on the afternoon of August 12, 2006 after a brief illness, at Bethania Personal Care Home. She was born on October 6, 1908 to Johann and Anna Froese (nee Rempel) and grew up in the village of Schoeneberg, South Russia. Life in her early years was good. Her father was a good farmer and she was surrounded by siblings and a large extended family. When the family decided to emigrate in 1929 she was temporarily left behind with the intention of joining the rest of the family in Moscow but was ultimately unable to make that connection. Fortunately she was able to get to Germany several years later but because it was no longer possible to join the rest of her family in Canada she, along with a brother and his family, immigrated to Brazil. Here she trained as a nurse and then found employment in a German hospital. In 1948 she obtained a visa to Canada to join her family but three years later she returned to Brazil and the following year married Isbrandt Friesen. Four years later they immigrated to Canada and, because she had obtained a nursing license during her earlier stay in Canada, she was able to continue her nursing career. Her husband's teaching career took them to several Manitoba towns before retirement in Winnipeg. In recent years, although her mobility had been reduced by a stroke, they enjoyed their retirement, eventually in Bethania Haus and then in Bethania Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her husband (Isbrandt), her parents; her sisters Anna (Falk), Maria (Klassen), Susie (Schmidt) and Anna (in infancy); brothers Johann, Abram and Peter (in infancy); sister-in-law Maria Froese; and brothers-in-law Jacob Falk, Willi Klassen, Peter Schmidt, Jake Warkentin, Ben Dyck, and Cornelius Petkau. She is survived by her sisters Helen (Warkentin), Erna (Dyck), Sadie (Petkau) and Kathleen (David) (Klassen), her sister-in-law Anita Froese and many nieces and nephews. Thank you to the staff at Bethania Personal Care Home for their loving care. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at the Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, with viewing preceding the service. Interment to follow in the Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church Cemetery in Springstein.
