YVONNE ALEXANDRINE MARIE BRODIE (nee LAFORTUNE) October 2, 1924 August 11, 2006 Peacefully on Friday evening August 11, 2006, Yvonne, at the age of 81, passed away at St. Boniface Hospital with family by her side. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lillian, Julie and Robert; sisters, Irène Clifford, Marguerite (Georges) Petit, Ida Appelmans, Georgette (George) Forbes and Anita Balzer; sister-in-law Fernande Masse; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Rodger; her brothers, Joseph, Marcien, Hubert, Edouard; sisters, Berthe, Jeannette, Cécile and Thérèse and sister-in-law Louise and brother-in-law John. Yvonne was born October 2, 1924 in La Broquerie, MB, the daughter of Georges and Eugénie LaFortune. Her formative years were mostly in La Broquerie where she graduated from high school. Her work career began as a teacher in Laurier, MB. Upon completion of her business course she held positions at Eatons, Security Storage, and Shell Oil. She married Rodger on his return from Korea in 1954 and so began her army life. While raising three children she moved across Canada and to Germany. Upon Rodger's retirement, and their return to St. Vital, Yvonne started her long career at St. Boniface Hospital. She began in the student nurses' library, and held secretarial positions in medical records, psychiatry and pacemaker clinic until her retirement. Yvonne spent the following years giving special care to her husband and several family members until several years later she became concerned about her own health. Elle sera toujours dans la douce mémoire de ses enfants, Lillian, Julie et Robert, ses soeurs Irène, Marguerite, Ida, Georgette et Anita, ainsi que ses beaux frères, une belle soeur, de nombreux neveux et nièces, cousins, cousines et ami(e)s. A son retour, à Saint-Vital en 1971, Yvonne entreprit une longue carrière à l'Hôpital Saint-Boniface, en commençant à la librairie d'infirmières étudiantes, suivie de position de secrétaire dans les départements médicial, psychiatre ainsi que la clinique pacemaker toujours sous l'administration des Soeurs Grises. The family deeply appreciated the devoted nursing care and compassion given to her by the staff at St. Boniface Hospital by 6A Medicine and 5A Cardiology. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 (tel. 925-3800) or the Manitoba Lung Association 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1P6. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, August, 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 847 St. Mary's Rd. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 17 at 10:00 a.m. also at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the St. Vital Cemetery.
