Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHE REVEREND HERBERT H. C. KLEINER Died peacefully on August 15, 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital, Herbert H. C. Kleiner, widower of Vera. Herbert was born on May 16, 1923 in the rural parsonage of St. John Lutheran Church, Edenwold, SK, son of the late Rev. Dr. Conrad W. Kleiner and his wife, the late Carolina Elizabeth nee Mang and step-son of Emilie nee Meier. After the death of his mother in September 1924, he and his older sister Ruth lived with their maternal grandparents, John and Carolina Mang until their father's remarriage to Emilie Meier in April 1931, when the family moved to Edmonton. After obtaining his elementary and high school education in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba, Herbert enrolled in the University of Saskatchewan in 1941, graduating with a B.A. degree in 1944. The same year he entered the Lutheran College and Seminary, Saskatoon and graduated with a B. D. degree in May 1947. He was ordained into the ministry of the Lutheran Church in June 1947. In July, he married Vera Burnice Grabinsky and that same fall they departed for service in the Lutheran Church Mission in Andhra State, S. India. In 1967 they returned from India and from 1968 to 1971 Pastor Kleiner served Messiah Lutheran Church, Winnipeg. In July of 1971 they returned to India for further service with the Lutheran Church Mission in Madras. Early retirement brought them back to Winnipeg in 1982. His wife Vera predeceased Herbert in May 1988. He leaves to mourn his death two daughters, Charlotte Kleiner of Winnipeg and Margaret Reimer (Frank) of Winkler, MB; three sons, James and wife Jocelyn of Vancouver, Joe and wife Laurel of Headingley, MB and Ted of Winnipeg; his grandchildren Jeri Lyn Huzel (Jeff), Lisa Clarke (Shawn), Gayle Kleiner (Gary Makarchuk), Jason Kleiner and Janinne Kleiner; and great-granddaughters Mackenzie Skylar and Paityn Reilly Clarke and great-grandson Logan Wayne and great-granddaughter Kaylen Diane Makarchuk. He also leaves to mourn his sisters Ruth Keitel and Geri Wiemken of Calgary; sister-in-law Heather Kleiner of Saskatoon; brother-in-law Warren (Shirley) Grabinsky of Vernon, BC. Many loving relatives and friends in North America and India share in their loss. Cremation and interment of ashes has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Cambridge Street and Corydon Avenue, 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2006 with Bishop Elaine Sauer officiating.
