BERNARD (BEN) REIMER Born July 25, 1939 in Winkler, MB to Peter W. and Eva Reimer. Passed away August 11, 2006 at Victoria Hospital, Winnipeg. Ben will be sadly missed by his devoted companion of over 35 years, Jean Whyte; his sisters, Eva (Jake) Kroeker, Sadie (Chris) Harder; brothers, George (Mary), Bill (Mary), Peter (Nora) and John (Helen); nieces and nephews; and Jean's family, daughter Glenda Burns, son Gary (Debbie) and grandsons Tyler, Dustin and Kelsey; daughter Colleen McArthur (Bob) and Glenda and Colleen's children. He was predeceased by his parents and four sisters, Mary, Kay, Anne and Helen. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the home care workers who spent many months caring for Ben at home. We would also like to extend our thanks to the amazing sensitive staff at Victoria Hospital, both in the Emergency Department and 5 North, where Ben spent his last days. Your devotion to your work and your empathy was greatly appreciated. The families would also like to send a very special thank you to Jean for her many years of love and caring for Ben. You helped Ben enjoy a very full and satisfying life. Your devotion and caring in his final months clearly showed Ben, the depth of your love. Ben was involved with the Paraplegic Sports Association. He represented Canada at the games in Jamaica in 1966, and again in 1968 in Israel. He was the first Canadian to do so at these games. He has donated his body to Research for Science. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 18, at 7:00 pm at Klassen Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Manitoba, Spinal Cord Research, 436 - 730 William Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 3J7.
