Date of Passing: Aug 07, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLINDA SIGRID ROSE RITCHIE Linda Ritchie (1949-2006) of Whitehorse, YK, fought valiantly against breast cancer until her peaceful passing on August 7, 2006 at the Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC. Linda was born in Winnipeg, MB to Thomas and Irene Hodgson. She studied at the University of Manitoba and practiced as a geriatric, then later as pediatric physio-therapist. In this capacity, Linda spent her adulthood helping others live better lives; something she loved to do. In 1977 she migrated northwest to Prince Albert, SK with her husband Brian and three children where she spent 14 years before continuing her northwest migration moving to Yukon in 1991. Linda had a deep love of music and for many years played the piano and organ at her church in Saskatchewan. She was also active for many years in the Whitehorse Community Choir. Linda often volunteered her time for such organizations as the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Canadian Cancer Society. Linda enjoyed the simple pleasures of gardening, hiking with friends and a few hours alone on a comfy couch with a warm blanket and a good book. Linda is survived by her daughter Saxon (children Brody and Jaedyn) and her sons Travis (wife Beth, son Fynn) and Kristjan of Whitehorse. She is also survived by her brother Wayne (wife Wilma) of Grande Prairie, AB as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of Linda's life will be held at #8-15th Ave. in Whitehorse on Saturday, August 19, 2006 between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. Linda's cremated remains will be scattered later by her family at a location she requested. Flowers respectfully declined by the family. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Linda are asked to consider the memorial fund that has been established in Linda's name for use at the Child Development Centre where Linda did so much great work over the years to help young children. Please contact the Scotiabank (quote account number 70920 052 4123). Linda always felt very blessed to have so many wonderful friends and wanted to thank you all for sharing the path of life with her. Walk on!
