Date of Passing: Aug 18, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACOB DYCK September 12, 1923 - August 18, 2006 It is with deep regret that we announce the peaceful passing of Jacob (Jake) Dyck on August 18 at the Bethania Personal Care Home. Jake was predeceased by his beloved wife Dora in April 2003. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his daughter Helga, husband Terry (Smyrl), grandchildren Christopher and Andrea, sisters Helene Friesen and Elsa Duda, and many nieces and nephews. Jake was born in Chortitza, Ukraine to Jacob and Helene Dyck, brother to Peter, Helene, Katharina, Maria and Elsa. At the end of the Second World War, Jake made his way to Germany and joined previously-relocated family members in Coburg. While working in Coburg, Jake met Dora and they were married on Christmas Day, 1948. In 1951, Jake, Dora and young daughter Helga emigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. A machinist by trade, Jake started work at Muzeen and Blythe Ltd., a relationship that was to span the next 35 years. By the sixties Jake became a managing partner in the firm and he was instrumental in the continued growth and success of the company, making many lasting friendships with employees, clients and business associates. With Jake's retirement in 1985 came the opportunity for Jake and Dora to travel. They particularly enjoyed their yearly winter vacations down south, as well as trips to visit daughter Helga and family. They particularly enjoyed these precious times with their grandchildren Chris and Andrea. The cottage at Brereton Lake now became a year-round second home, always ensuring that the bird feeders were well-stocked and other visiting wildlife received something to help them through the winters. Jake was a man of many special talents and abilities. The words it can't be done were not part of his vocabulary. There were no jobs that were too big or complicated to do, and he was always first in line to offer help to family or neighbors to get those things done. Jake was a longtime member of the First Mennonite Church. He was a member and Past Master of King Edward Lodge #93. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the cottage at the Bethania Personal Care Home for their compassion and care provided to Jake. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame with Rev. Franz Wiebe officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the service in the lower hall of the church. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jake's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, or the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S7.
