Gerry is survived by his sisters, Marie Kerkolee, Thérèse Lambert and Denise Caron. Sisters and brothers, Annette, Marguerite, Dora, Georgette, Germaine, Alphonse, Maurice and Joseph, predeceased him. Many nephews and nieces will miss a favourite uncle. Gerry was born in Antler, SK on March 24, 1918 the son of the late Eliza Dumont and Félix Gentes. He lived in various places on the prairies, settling in Brandon in the 1960s. He will be remembered with fondness by the many paperboys and girls he worked with during his many years with the Winnipeg Free Press. Gerry was an active member of St. Augustine's Parish in Brandon, devoting his time to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Always an avid gardener, his lawn was not only the envy of the neighbourhood, it was recognized formally by the Brandon Horticultural Society. Gerry had a special touch with animals of all kinds. He could train cats and make friends with any dog on the street. During his time at the Foyer Valade the dogs brought in by volunteers were a source of much joy. The family thanks employees and volunteers at the Foyer for their dedication to Gerry's care and the devotion with which they delivered that care. They are to be commended for treating each and every resident as if he or she is a very special person. As well, a special thank you to the home care workers in Brandon who took wonderful care of Gerry. Bravo to all of you. A memorial mass will be held on Friday evening, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Timothy's Church, 135 John Forsyth Rd., Winnipeg with Fr. Phil Daley officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Friends and family in the Brandon area are invited to attend the interment ceremony which will take place the next day, Saturday, August 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brandon Cemetery (west side), 1901 18th Street South.
