Date of Passing: Aug 22, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGUSTAF ALBERT HANSON Quietly, before dawn on August 22, 2006 Gus took his last breath and passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks General Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Virginia; daughters Verna and Marlene; sons-in-law, Steve and Aubrey; and granddaughter Alisen, as well as many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents Olaf and Karolina, brother Einar (Frida), sisters Anna (Axel) and Jennie (Arthur) and brother Knut who died in infancy. Gus was born November 22, 1917 and grew up in Riverland, Lac du Bonnet. His family came from Sweden and settled in the Lac du Bonnet area, which was so like their Swedish countryside. Gus helped his father build the family log home in Riverland. Dad served in the Second World War, mostly in the Aleutian Islands. While in the army, he met the love of his life, Virg. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in April 2006. At an early age, Gus set out to earn a living on his own, working in lumber camps and the mines at Bissett, MB. Then, like his father, and so many in his family he honed his skill as a carpenter, known for his attention to detail and fine craftsmanship. Dad loved the simple and true pleasures of life. He appreciated the outdoors, nature and all living creatures and spending time with his family. The birth of his only granddaughter was a joyous event in dad's life. He spent many happy years with his family at the cottage, first in Poplar Bay and then in Riverland. The family extends sincere appreciation to Dad's many caregivers over the years, especially to Dr. Samuel Bellan (deceased), and his assistant Bernice. Thanks also to Dr. Moncek who helped Dad during his last days, which were spent at Seven Oaks Hospital, and to the Home Care nurses who checked in on Dad at home over the past year, especially Rachelle. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Should friends desire, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Seven Oaks General Hospital. Your gentle spirit will be with us always, Dad. We cherish the memories! Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of condolences at www.gleneden-mb.ca
