LORNE ALEXANDER DAVIDSON REID July 20, 1924 August 22, 2006 Surrounded by his family and with the dignity displayed throughout his life, Dad passed to his eternal rest on August 22, 2006 at the Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oak Bank. He was predeceased in 1992 by his wife Verna, the mother of their three children, his second wife Fern in 2000 and stepson-in-law George Duquette. Lorne will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by son Ian and wife Kim, Kori and her son Nathan, Jon and wife Lindsay; son Brent and wife Bev, Laura and Mark, Cheryl and husband Travis and their expected child; daughter Ardith and husband Donald, Steven, Philip and Elyse; Fern's daughters, Donna-Lee; Diane and husband Bill, Jacqueline, Deni and Sara; sister Catherine Friesen; brother Donald and wife Margaret; brother-in-law Norv Christopherson and wife Arlene, as well as many relatives and friends. Dad was born and raised in South Plympton. At the age of 18, he joined the Army and served overseas in the Second World War. Dad and Mum were married in 1952 and they made their home in Oak Bank. He continued to farm while working with Norv at Suburban Electric and obtaining his Journeyman's Electrician License. He became the Postmaster in Oak Bank in 1969, and retired after 20 years service. Dad volunteered much of his time to his community, including the Oak Bank United Church, Credit Union, Community Club, School Board, Beautification Committee, Costume Museum of Canada, Senior's Assistance Program and Kin Place Board. He was very honoured to receive the RCMP Community Volunteer Award and to be recognized with the Queen's Jubilee Medal. Dad was very pleased to receive the Oak Bank United Church Humble Servant Award, and to have it provide a bursary for an SCI student. Dad could often be seen cutting the grass at the church, sweeping the sidewalk at Christopherson Insurance, blowing snow for neighbours, and always taking time for that cup of coffee with friends. Dad was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Sunday dinners were a special time for us all, and after Mum passed away, Dad continued that tradition. Sunday drives and visits, family holidays, ice cream cones, tobogganing, Thursday night coffee, Saturday morning breakfast, handing out bulletins and greeting church family, sitting around the dinner table and laughing were all important parts of his life. These are a few of the memories we will all cherish. Special thanks to the Kin Place Personal Care Home staff and volunteers for their compassion and caring. Your kindness meant a great deal to us all. Interment will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., August 26 at Oak Bank United Church, 582 Balsam Cres., Oak Bank. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Oak Bank United Church Memorial Fund, the Kin Place Personal Care Home Volunteer Fund, or a charity of your choice.
