EARL JAMES WATERS Earl Waters, professional drummer, mountain climber and dog lover, passed away in Gimli Hospital of cancer complications, August 20, 2006. He was born February 23, 1931 to James Alva and Annie Mary (Horner) Waters and predeceased by his parents in 1967 and 1997 and by an infant sister Lois Doreen. Earl is survived by his sister Norma (Maurice) Duncan and brother David (Deanna) Waters of Winnipeg; nieces, Sandra (Stan) Duncan-Allen of Charlotte, NC, Michele (Gavin) MacBeath of Boston, MA, Marcie (Greg) Gerbrandt of Winnipeg; nephews, David (Joan) Duncan of Chicago, IL, Craig (Jennifer) Duncan of Winnipeg; grandnieces, Miki-Rae (Allan) Hanslip (Kate and Nicole), Meaghan Duncan, Heather and Meghan MacBeath; great-nephews, James (Tanya) Allen (Austin), Christopher Crampton (Bailey Stampnick), Andrew MacBeath and cousins in Canada and the United States. Earl attended school in West Kildonan. He joined the sea cadets at an early age, where he learned to play the drums. Consequently, a number of his summers were spent playing drums in a band at Lake Louise, AB. He was very fond of music, especially jazz and Big Band. He spent many of his holidays climbing in the Rocky Mountains, where he took outstanding photos of that part of the country, enlarging and framing them. Earl was a prolific reader and could converse for hours on a variety of subjects. He had a great sense of humour and liked to tease. Earl worked in sales and office work for various companies in Regina and Winnipeg. He retired from the Addictions Foundation in Gimli, a number of years ago. For the past seven years Earl served on the Board of directors at Shorepoint Village, Gimli. He will be greatly missed by his family, his many friends in Gimli, and by his dog Rusty. His nieces and nephews will also miss their Uncle Earl. The family wishes to thank Dr. Patel and the nursing staff at Gimli Hospital, Brenda Banera and Ron Haddad, for their compassion and kindness towards Earl at this difficult time. Cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest beside his parents at Old Kildonan Cemetery in West Kildonan at a later date. An informal memorial service and reception will be held at the Shorepoint Village Hall in Gimli, Saturday, August 26 at 3:00 p.m. All are welcome. Earl committed his life to Jesus Christ and we rejoice that he is now in His presence. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrooke St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or The Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
