Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWLADYSLAW JAKIELA 1912 -2006 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved tatus and dziadzio on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at St Joseph's Residence. Wladyslaw was predeceased by his wife Julia of 55 years, one and a half years ago. He is survived by his daughter Donna and husband Paul Courteau, grandchildren, Meghan and husband Danny Wright, Morgan, Kyle, Gabrielle and Stephen; his son John and wife Anne Merlin and granddaughters, Julia and Andrea. He is also survived by his brother Jan and wife Klima; and family in Canada, the United States and Poland. This kind, gentle and wonderful man will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. Wladyslaw was born in Lubatowa, Poland on June 1, 1912. He enlisted in the Polish army in the 9th Calvary Regiment several years before the Second World War broke out. During this time, he met his wife Julia, thus beginning their love affair. Julia lost contact with her Wladzio during the war and returned to Canada when it ended. Upon reaching Canada Julia frantically tried to locate Wladzio through the Red Cross and eventually located him in Bolton, England. Their letter writing began and in November 1949 Wladyslaw came to Winnipeg to be reunited with his love. They were married January 1950 and two children soon followed. Wladzio was a kind and gentle soul who was always helping others, especially his children and grandchildren. Growing up as one of the oldest in a large family, he looked after his brothers and sisters especially after the death of his mother at a very young age. Caring for his younger siblings developed in him a strong love for all children which was very evident in the joy he had with his grandchildren who were the centre of his being. Wladyslaw was a fine craftsman who could design and build anything he truly did have those golden hands . As a machinist at CNR he developed many tools that are still being used today. Wladyslaw was very proud of being a member of the Polish Legion SPK #13. He held many positions and especially cherished his years as treasurer. The family would like to thank Home Care Services and St Joseph's Residence for caring for Wladyslaw with such kindness. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk, Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Private family interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Institute for the Blind.
