MAX RUBINSTEIN On August 18, 2006, Max Rubinstein, aged 94 years, passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital. Max was born on May 23, 1912, in Meziritch, Poland. During the depression, as a young man, he moved with his family to Winnipeg. There he met his wife Gertrude whom he married in 1941 and together they started a family. Gertrude (nee Finkle), his wife, predeceased him in 1980. He leaves to mourn his son Gary Ruben (June), his daughter Diane Smaizys (John) and his son Larry Rubinstein. He also leaves to mourn his grandchildren Maureen, Michael (Jennifer), Joane (Aaron), Jennifer (Donald), Brian (Joanna), Gail and Deena and his great-grandchildren Julia, Brendan and Jack. Max worked at A M Hurtig and Sons for 57 years as a fur cutter. During his vacation and retirement years he enjoyed spending time at his cottage at Winnipeg Beach with his family and friends. A funeral service was held at Etz Chayim Synagogue on Monday, August 21, 2006 with interment at the Hebrew Sick Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Max's memory to Etz Chayim Synagogue at 123 Matheson Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2W 0C3. He will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
