MARY MUZYKA (nee PARFENIUK) 1912-2006 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, at the age of 94, at St. Joseph's Residence. Mary was the oldest of 12 children to Anna and Sam Parfeniuk born on April 16, 1912 at Beckenham, SK. She married Mike Muzyka on June 6, 1932 and farmed in the Hubbard and Ituna, SK area. In 1953, they moved to Winnipeg. She worked part time and looked after her great-aunt as well as her grand-children. She was employed with Canada Immigration as a cook until 1965. Mary volunteered much of her time cooking and baking for church feast days and the priests. Mary was a very kind, loving and generous person and her home was always open for company and a warm meal. She was known for her delicious home cooked meals as well as her green thumb. Her entire backyard was dedicated to a wonderful garden of flowers and vegetables which she lovingly took pride in. Her grandchildren spent many days playing in the maze of greenery and picking fresh vegetables for their dinner and sleepover at Baba's house. Mary leaves to mourn her passing her family, son Peter (Marianna); daughters, Elizabeth (Loyd) Ullrich, Diane (Robert) Fraser; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grand-children, Darlene (Douglas) MacMillan, Katherine, Nicholas and Aaron; Christine (Wayne) Guest, Michael, Dana and Mark; Ivan (Christine) Kozey, Donna (George) Lechman, Christie, Melissa, and Allison; Gerald Fraser; Brian (Laryssa) Muzyka, Arkadya; Carolyn (Tod) Melnyk, Jaya and Cally; Jacquelyn (Ron) Chicoyne, Jakob and Tyler. Mary is also survived by three sisters, Kay (John) Otchenosh, Steffa (John) Dorash, Emma Parfeniuk and one brother Walter, all of Saskatchewan; as well as cousin Dr. James Miller of Winnipeg. Mary was predeceased by her husband Michael; son Eugene Michael; grandson Patrick Kozey; son-in-law Roman Kozey; also four brothers, Mike, Metro, John, Bill; and three sisters, Annie, Rose, and Julie. Prayers will be sung at 7:00 pm on Monday August 28, at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29 also at the church with Fr. I. Dziadyk OSBM officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catholic Foundation of Manitoba, 218-210 Masson St., Winnipeg, MB R2H 0H4. As a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she was a wonderful example of love and we thank her for that great gift. Mom, Baba, old Baba, we miss you and you will forever live in our hearts.
