MARY VAN DE LAAR (nee Frerichs) It is with deep regret that we announce the peacefully passing of Mary Van De Laar, Saturday, August 26, 2006 at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 86. Mary will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Frank; sons, Marinus, Frank Jr. (Helen), Robert (Leslie) and Losi Van De Laar; left to cherish the memory of Oma are her grandchildren, Lesley, Marcy, Kristen; Donna, Daniel, Shiela, Sabrina, Jason; Nicole, Michael, as well as 18 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews in Holland. Mary was born April 20, 1920 in Helmond, Holland, the youngest of seven. She married Frank, June 27, 1942 and had three sons. The family immigrated to Canada in 1957. Originally living in the north end, they moved to Fort Richmond in 1964 until 2006. Mary worked for 28 years as a caregiver for resident boys at St. Joseph Vocational School. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, knitting and crocheting for her children and grandchildren. Many hours were spent making cabbage patch and Barbie clothes for her beloved grandchildren. Mary loved animals, especially dogs and had fond memories of a boxer named Trixie and lately a little dog, Crissy who gave meaning and purpose to her life. She appreciated her son Marinus who was dedicated to her care, visiting every day to help her with lunch and high lightening her day with jokes and conversation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Mary's life will take place on Thursday, August 31 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In The Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The family would like to thank the staff of 4W at the deer Lodge Centre for caring for Mary with such kindness. Mary was very happy to be living there and always called the staff the Real McCoy . In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
