MARY MOROZ
Born: Sep 03, 1924
Date of Passing: Aug 31, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY MOROZ Peacefully in her sleep on August 31, 2006 at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 81. Beloved wife of the late Michael Moroz, Mary is survived by her son Barry, daughter-in-law Aldene and her two grandsons, Justin of Winnipeg and Jordan of Lake Louise, AB. She was predeceased by her husband Mike; her parents, Max and Molanka Hykawy; and brothers, Jim, Mike and Nick Hykawy. Mary was born on September 3, 1924 on the family farm near Gimli. She spent her childhood helping out on the farm and helping her mother deliver eggs and vegetables. She began working in Winnipeg at various jobs at a young age and was married to Mike in 1949. After a short time in Finns and the birth of her son, the family moved to Gimli where she was employed at the hospital and made many friends through Kinettes and curling. Upon Mike's retirement from teaching, they moved to Winnipeg and Mary spent a number of years working in the bakery at Eaton's. She and Mike were married for 42 years before his untimely passing in 1991. Mary enjoyed the company of her grandsons who were the twinkle of her eye, travelling to the United States, her time spent with family, playing bingo where she had an uncanny habit of winning almost all the time and her friendships at St. John's Haven. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at 3-South and 2-North for their compassionate care and comfort during her extended stay at Victoria. An evening funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg with Father Mark Gnutel of Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church officiating. Private interment will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Mary's belief that the one greatest gift a parent could give a child is an education, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the St. Paul's High School Bursary Fund, 2200 Grant Avenue, Winnipeg.
