LIONEL (ROCKY) EDUOARD JOSEPH ROCAN It is with deep sadness that our family announces the sudden loss of Lionel (Rocky) Eduoard Joseph Rocan on Tuesday, August 29, 2006. He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife of 50 years, Barbara; children, Carolyn (Allan) Isliefson, Mark Rocan, Brian (Eleanor) Rocan and Sandra (Jeff) Delavau. Grandpa will be missed by his grandchildren, Kristin (Patrick), Kelly, Jo-Anne, Derek, Riley and David. He is also mourned by mother-in-law Ruth (Nanny); siblings, Delphine, Lena, Leona (Emillien), Louis, Louise (Adam) and Rose; as well as in-laws, Lloyd (Eleanor), Ross (Lauri) and Linda (John); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Lionel was predeceased by his parents, Emery and Ormeline and siblings, Alice, Jean, Larry and Leo. Lionel was born on January 18, 1936 and spent his childhood on the family farm in La Broquerie, MB. He left home at the age of 15 and several years later met the love of his life, Barbara whom he married in 1956. Lionel was delighted at celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Lionel began his career as a professional transport driver at the age of 22 and retired from Reimer Express in 1999. He was proud of his award recognizing over 2 million miles of safe driving. Because of the nature of his job, Lionel was away for long periods of time, but his family always remained the most important part of his life. He loved to spend time with his family, whether it was playing cards or marbles, watching wrestling or just talking about memorable family times. Lionel was always willing to try something if it sounded like fun. He cherished each moment with his grandchildren and was known for his grandpa jokes . Lionel had a wonderful sense of humour and was the first to laugh at his own jokes. He loved to tease and play pranks whenever the opportunity arose. Lionel was good hearted with a kind soul and was always willing to help anyone whenever needed. No matter what the problem, you could count on him. He was there when your car broke down, babysat his grandchildren, provided family haircuts, fed the neighbours pets, the list is endless. Lionel has always loved animals and took great pleasure in his own treasured pets. Since his retirement Lionel's hobby became feeding all of the neighbourhood birds, squirrels and even ducks. He will be missed by his furry and feathered friends. Our family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care. Cremation and a private family service celebrating his life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Lionel's love for animals, donations may be made in his memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
