INGIBJORG (MARIA) SIGURGEIRSON (nee BALDWINSON) Maria passed away at the Betel Home in Gimli, August 31, 2006. She was born on May 12, 1922 at the family farm Baldurshagi at Geysir. At an early age, the family moved to Riverton where she was educated. Later on she married Vilhjalmur (Bill) Sigurgeirson of Hecla. Together with her husband they were employed with C.N.R. for many years at Jasper Park Lodge and Minaki Lodge. In 1955 they bought Minaki Marina which they operated for many years. After retirement they lived in Selkirk, Gimli and finally Riverton. Maria was very proud of her Icelandic heritage. She loved her family and above all else her grandchildren. She loved music, singing and dancing. She sang in various Icelandic choirs as a young girl and later years at both Hnausa and Gimli Icelandic Celebrations. Maria was always a lady and held in high regard by all who knew her. She was meticulous about knitting, crocheting, gardening and housekeeping, making sure that everything was spic and span . We used to joke with her about her passion about cleaning and painting anything that didn't move! She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Villi (Bill); her parents, Herbert and Valdheidur. Sisters, Alice (Bill) Snorrason, Colly (Grimsi) Brynolfson. Brothers, Norman (Joan) Baldwinson, Rodney (Gaylene) Baldwinson. Her in-laws, Geri and Kristbjorg; sister-in-law Ingibjorg McKillop; brothers-in-law, Marus and Jon Sigurgeirson. She is survived by her daughter Cyndi; her grandchildren, Tara, Landon and Ashley. Her brothers, Baldi (Isabel) and Neil (Merilyn); plus numerous relatives and friends. As per her wishes cremation has taken place, interment of ashes at a later date. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at the Riverton Lutheran Church with Pastor Trudy Thorarinson officiating on September 5, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverton Lutheran Church.
