GERALD ALLAN MACKENZIE On Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at the Victoria Hospital, Gerry MacKenzie, aged 90 years, beloved husband of Anna of Winnipeg passed away. Gerry was born in Eyebrow, SK on August 13, 1916, son of Donald and Olive MacKenzie. He spent his young life in Vancouver and Regina attending Scott Collegiate and Balfour Technical before working for the Houston Willoughby Real Estate Firm. In 1940 he left Regina for Toronto where he started to work on the assembly line of the Ford Motor Company until enlisting in the RCAF. He was stationed in various places. While on a training mission from Uplands, Ottawa, ON three weeks before the Wings Parade, the Harvard plane he was flying crashed causing him to be severely burned as well as having broken bones. He was transferred to Ottawa Civic Hospital where he met his bride to be Anna Baldwin. After many sessions of skin grafts at Christie Street Hospital in Toronto, he returned to training at Uplands in April, graduating one year and one day later. Gerry and Anna were married August 22, 1944 and after a short furlough, Gerry left for England. He was stationed in Bournemouth, St. Athens, Wales and Wambleton before finishing his training just as the war was over. After discharge from the RCAF, he returned to the Ford Motor Company and was sent to Regina, Calgary and Winnipeg in charge of Parts and a short session of Business Management. Gerry retired in 1980 after 40 years with the same company. Gerry's hobbies were golfing and curling at the Wildewood Club where he was president for two years. Over the years he belonged to the Y's Men's Club of Regina, the St. Andrew's Society, Chamber of Commerce and then the Senior Section. He was past president of the Wartime Pilots and Observers Association. Gerry enjoyed the summers at his cottage at Granite Lake and winters in Florida. He also enjoyed trips to England, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and especially New Brunswick. Gerry was predeceased by his daughter Marilyn and sons, Graham and Roderick; two brothers, Donald and Hector and son-in-law Don Jacobs. He is survived by his wife Anna; one daughter Geraldine Jacobs; three grandsons, Steven (Kim) of North Carolina, Brent (Linda) of Calgary and Paul (Teresa) of New Market, ON; two great-granddaughters, Anna MacKenzie Jacobs and Samantha Rae Jacobs; also one brother Roy (Maude) of Vancouver; sister-in-law Connie MacKenzie of Kelowna; and many nieces and nephews. If so desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Winnipeg. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 5 at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 755 Elm St. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
