Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRISTINE ELIZABETH HANKE (nee Flatt) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christine Elizabeth Hanke on September 2, 2006 at the age of 86. Christine was born February 9, 1920 in Grass River, Manitoba to Adam and Sophia Flatt. In 1941 she married Edward Hanke and together they farmed and raised four children in the Waldersee area. After moving to Winnipeg in 1967, Christine began her long-time career with T. Eaton's where she was a faithful and devoted employee for 24 years. She loved to cook and bake, always making sure everyone had plenty to eat and that her freezer was full of goodies. Family gatherings and celebrations of special occasions were times that she especially cherished. Some of her favorite activities were shopping and having lunch with her girls , needlework, reading and visiting with her friends. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Gail Pfeifer and husband Arthur, Gwen Spiss and partner Harry Melnyk, Deborah Duncan and husband John; her grandchildren, Deidre Pfeifer-Lacroix and husband Christian, Craig Pfeifer and wife Sharon, Jennifer Spiss, Michael Hanke, Chandra Hanke McNamara, Christopher Duncan, Robert Duncan; great-grandchildren Shayne, Keaghan and Maille Pfeifer, Ty and Kia McNamara, Andre Lacroix; her sister Helen Fults and her brother Otto Flatt. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1977, son Douglas in 1978 and 13 siblings. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home on Friday, September 8 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Christine's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Salvation Army. This warm and gracious lady will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
