HARRY KING On Friday, September 1, 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital, Harry King passed away suddenly at the age of 81 years. Harry was predeceased by his wife Helen in August of 2000; parents, Emma and Fred King; sisters, Mary, Evelyn and Dorothy; brothers, Fred and George and his beloved granddaughter Kelsey, just six months ago. Left to cherish his memory are children, Cliff (Betty Ann, Scott), Debbie (Frank, Steven, Chris, Lindsey), Cindy (Miles, Cody, Kyle), and Lori (Diane, April, Joshua); sisters and brother, Ruth, Emma, Helen (Keith), Lawrence and Audrey, plus many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Harry was the fourth youngest of 11 children and was raised in Clarkleigh, MB. Harry moved to Winnipeg, where he met the love of his life, Helen (nee Miller) and they married on January 30, 1954. Together they provided a loving home and raised four children in Fort Garry. Harry was employed for many years as a transit driver for the city of Winnipeg and received the Driver of the Month award numerous times. He was very proud of his career. Harry had many passions when he was younger including hunting and sports. As he grew older he enjoyed bingo, gardening, bowling and camping with Mom and the kids. He always loved to dance and play crib and looked forward to his crib games with Steven as well as going out for a burger and bowling with Lindsey and Kelsey. Dad retired in June of 1984 and suffered a stroke on Boxing Day the same year. This did not slow him down. His love of dance was evident with the High Steppers Club and he was also active in his Y Group going out on many outings including Casino trips across the border. He sang in his church choir as well. He was an avid reader of books. Above all Dad adored his grandchildren and his pride in them was very evident. Lori and Diane provided great care and love for Dad in their home over the last five years. He left us so quickly and unexpectedly. Now he is with Mom and Kelsey, dancing with both of them in Heaven! A celebration of Harry's life will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 7 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 930 Winakwa Rd. in Winnipeg. Viewing will be one half hour prior to the service. Friends and family are invited to share stories and refreshments immediately after the service. Following lunch, interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. All are invited. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Terry Fox Cancer Foundation or to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Dad, we love you and we miss you so much.
