Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM JOHN (JACK) CHARLES July 8, 1918 - September 3, 2006 William John (Jack) Charles passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2006 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Jack was born in Winnipeg on July 8, 1918 as the second son of Robert and Annie Charles. Jack will be missed by his wife Elinor; sister Brenda; sons, Bob, Bill, Bruce, Barry and daughter Bev; his grandchildren, Andrea, Brian, Carrie, Trevor, Jessica, Tamara, Andrew, Graham, Taylor, Max, Ashleigh, Brendin, Bryer, Vanessa, Dylan, Caden and Quinn. Jack was an avid hockey player who played semi professional hockey prior to the start of the Second World War. After the start of the Second World War, Jack was commissioned into the Canadian Army and was sent to Europe. During the war, Jack was stationed in England, Holland, Belgium and Germany from 1940 to 1945 with the 6th Field Regiment 13th Battery RCA Artillery. Jack was released from Military duty on June 24, 1945 with the rank of Warrant Officer Class II Battery Sergeant Major. Jack returned to Canada and secured a position with Trans Canada Airlines which later became Air Canada initially as a ticket agent in Edmonton. Jack and Elinor met in Edmonton and were married on August 30, 1947. Jack progressed through many management positions with Air Canada and was stationed in Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Vancouver, Sydney (Australia) and Winnipeg. Jack retired from Air Canada in Winnipeg, in November 1979 and remained in Winnipeg during retirement. Jack will be remembered for his wonderful stories, his incredible sense of humor, and a keen desire to build a better world. A service for Jack will be held at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Thursday, September 7 at 10:00 a.m. CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
