GERARD (GERRY) ROY After a courageous battle with cancer Gerard Gerry Roy of Minnedosa, MB passed away on September 3, 2006 in the Minnedosa Health Centre at the age of 71 years, with his beloved wife and daughters at his side. Gerry was born to parents Emma and Archille on August 20, 1935 along with his twin brother Gilbert, the last of nine siblings. He graduated in 1956 and began a 37-year teaching career, which brought him to many communities across the province. He enjoyed all sports where he was player, coach, and manager. Pastimes included travelling, camping, fishing and most of all being with his family of which he took such pride. Since retirement in 1990 much of his time has been spent in the service of others. He was predeceased by his father and mother Archille and Emma Roy; brother Dennis Roy and sister Yvonne Gauthier. Surviving are his wife Valerie, four daughters, Michelle (Craig) Simpson, Lola (Richard) Leclair, Melinda Hrechka, Marci (Scott) Sul; and nine grandchildren, Ryan, Stephen, Myles, Mitch, Jeanelle, Lyle, Celine, Brooke and Emma. Also surviving are six brothers, Fred (Marguerite), Pete (Cathy), Al (Tillie), Ray (Sally-deceased), Paul (Lorraine), Gilbert; one sister Yvette (Matt-deceased) Narog and many brother and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 8, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Minnedosa, MB. Prayers will be said from Minnedosa Funeral Service Chapel on Thursday, September 7 at 7:30 p.m. Officiating will be Father Vincent de Paul Tchaoule. Private family interment will take place on Saturday, September 9 in Lundar Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
