OLIVER EDWARD PITRE Finally at peace, our beloved Husband, Father and Papa, slipped away September 3, 2006 at Deer Lodge Centre, Special Care Unit, in Winnipeg (because he was very special). Dad was born June 23, 1921 at St. Boniface Hospital and grew up on the Pitre family farm in Lac Du Bonnet. At the age of 27, Dad was introduced to Mom, Vera Clark, age 23, sister of his older brother Joe's new bride, Betty. Oliver and Vera married on July 5, 1952 at the Holy Cross Church in St. Boniface and resided in St. Boniface until moving to Transcona. Dad was employed with the Foundation Company in Pine Falls, Manitoba, as an ironworker for the construction company of the power plant. He was also very busy operating the Pitre family farm that he had purchased from his parents and leased out the farm, finally selling the land in the late 1950s. He continued to work in construction for a few more years and eventually obtained employment as a car-man at the age of 30 at the Canadian National Railways shop in Transcona. Dad retired in 1985 and loved commuting with mum to their cottage in Lac Du Bonnet and also had frequent trips to B.C. to spend time with their daughters and their families. Oliver leaves his wife Vera Pitre; daughters Debbie Elebracht (Johann), Laurie Madden (Lorne), Janet Jurik (Leo), Susan McCarrell (Peter) and Michele Tabak. He will be greatly missed by his eight grandchildren Whitney, Natalie, Carla, Carmen, Taylor, Daylin, Liam and Jesse. To our Dearest Papa, Every time we look out at the sky we will think of you. You were a respectable man and we will be your little sweethearts forever and ever. We would like to offer special thanks to the outstanding staff at Deer Lodge Centre, Special Care Unit. Your compassion and loving care for Dad has touched our hearts and will never be forgotten. We appreciated the fact that you understood and connected with Dad's brand of humour and feistiness. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating Oliver's life will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald St., with Father Ron Leger officiating. Interment will follow in Lac Du Bonnet at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in the memory of Oliver may be made to the Alzheimer's Society. In Vera's words on the morning of September 3, 2006: Oliver, it's a beautiful day for flying . The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 253-5086
